Porajmos: Origins, History & Aftermath

Professor Donald Bloxham discusses the history of the Porajmos, the Romani name for the Holocaust.  His talk guides us on the journey from its origins in historical prejudice and stereotyping through the arrests, deportations and killings during the war period and into the post-war period when many of the prejudices continued.

Donald Bloxham is Richard Pares Professor of History at the University of Edinburgh.  He is the author or a number of books including The Final Solution: a Genocide and Genocide, The World Wars and the Unweaving of Europe.

The talk is illustrated with Stacey Hilton’s artwork, The Devouring [the English translation of the Porajmos], and archival photographs which some may find upsetting or disturbing.
